Remote Service Management
Status, scheduling, routing, reporting, customer service
December 14, 2024
Summary
This document describes a SaaS tool to monitor, schedule and route technical services in the field. The system uses remote sensing, wireless device charging and carrier-agnostic telephony. For example, in the case of storage containers the system might manage such activities as filling, retrieving, replacing and retrofitting. Many other applications are possible.
Functionality
In this example we use a tank filled with waste from an industrial process. The tank is filled sporadically by the process.
The tank is equipped with a sensor that indicates its most important status variable. The critical objective is to empty the tank before it overflows.
A simple float switch is installed that reports at intervals the level of liquid content as percentage of capacity to an RFID tag readable by a scanner from up to X meters.
The RFID tag is scanned by a programmable device at user-selected intervals. When scanned, the RFID device reports the level(s) of tank contents. The scanning device can examine and record status for multiple tanks.
At a user-specified frequency, a report of the content level(s) is transmitted to a central scheduling system. This may be accomplished via any telephone (wired or cellular) or Internet connection.
